A software factory of friends in hats

The DOOTery's software factory is a written-down way of working, run by a team of AI agents in hats. A person says what they want, and the team plans it, designs it, builds it, and checks it. Management directs every piece.

Friends in hats, no factory floor A factory drawn only in dashed construction lines, with a saw-tooth roof and an empty dashed conveyor along the floor. Under it, management, a cat in a headset, hands a request card to the Main Doot, a tuxedo cat in a captain's cap, at one end of a table. Two cats in hats work behind the table, and a cat in a deerstalker at its other end holds a magnifier over a finished sheet with a purple check stamp, which leaves on the right. Spare hats hang on a rail above them, with an empty peg over each cat at the table.

Management, to the DOOTery

What this factory holds to

  • Work starts when someone asks

The DOOTery takes in no work on its own. A person says what they want in plain words, and every step after answers to that request. Before anyone starts, work that repeats another job or serves nothing management wants gets cut.

See the route from request to check
  • The team gathers around the job

Each AI agent on the team is a Doot. A Main Doot leads one piece of work and brings in the friends it needs. A friend joins for one job, wears the hat for that job, reports back to its Main, and leaves. A small fix brings in only the hats it needs.

    Meet every hat
  • The thinking comes before the building

Design shapes what people see and do, and System design shapes what runs underneath. Two planners write the plan apart, then settle one plan that says what done means. Each build job comes out of it small and clear, so several can be built at once and still fit when they meet.

    How planning works
  • No Doot approves its own work

A tester who didn't build the work chooses its checks from what the plan says done means, uses the result the way a person would, and reports what breaks. Management judges the design and approves what needs approval.

Read Tests that froze the words
  • Doots own outcomes together

That is what DOOT stands for. When something breaks, the team finds why before it fixes it, and the fix goes where the cause is. The team's process is written down in files that are versioned like code, so a fix to how the team works reaches every project. No Doot is scored, ranked, or set against another.
